1. Get enough sleep

Getting sufficient sleep is essential to get your day off to a good start, but in today’s busy world, many of us are chronically sleep-deprived. Adults need between 7 to 9 hours’ sleep a night. If you’re not achieving this, the following tips will help:

  • Avoid alcohol, heavy meals and caffeine after 7 pm.
  • Turn off all your screens an hour before bedtime and keep your bedroom at a cool, comfortable temperature.
  • Your body temperature drops slightly as you fall asleep so take a warm bath just before you go to bed. The hot water raises your body temperature, and you will doze off as your temperature gradually returns to normal.

2. Set your alarm a little earlier

Early morning is often the best part of the day: peaceful, quiet and productive. But if you’re always in a rush, you don't appreciate it. Select your outfit the night before to save time and set your alarm half an hour earlier. Don't press the snooze button but use the extra minutes to sip your coffee, practice yoga, go for a run, read the paper, or fix a healthy packed lunch.

3. Eat well

A nutritious, well-balanced diet is essential for our bodies to function correctly. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, pulses and fish. A breakfast that includes protein will wake up your brain and clarify your thoughts, giving you a more productive morning.

4. Smile!

Wake up smiling and you’ll feel more positive all day. Moving the facial muscles to smile has been shown to increase levels of serotonin, the feel-good hormone. And when you smile at a stranger and they smile back, it can brighten your whole day.

5. Bach Flower Essences

If you’re stuck in a rut and feeling dejected, a course of Bach Flower Mix 65 helps to bring the sunshine back into your life, lifting your mood and banishing any negative thoughts that might be preventing you from making changes.

6. Exercise

Exercising is a surefire way to lift your mood. Exercising, especially outside in nature, releases endorphins. It’s proven to lift depression, clear your thoughts and leave you feeling calmer and happier. You don’t have to exercise for hours, but it’s vital to build it into your daily routine. If you’re feeling stressed or dejected, try going for a brisk 20-minute walk at lunchtime, or a run or cycle ride after work.

7. Prioritise your tasks

A to-do list that seems to get ever longer can seem overwhelming. Break it down and focus on just one big project each day. You’ll get a sense of satisfaction from accomplishing the task. And if you finish before the end of the day, just start on the next.

8. Do something you love

Daily routines at work and at home take up so much time that it sometimes seems there’s no time in your life for the things that really matter to you. Carve out a little time each day for yourself and do something you enjoy, whether it’s a hobby, a sport, or just a relaxing bath.

9. Rest and recreation

One of the main reasons for burnout is when you allow the demands of your professional career to overwhelm other aspects of your life. We need to refresh and restore our bodies and minds regularly, so don’t forget to add some space for resting into your daily and weekly schedule. Bach Flower Mix 83 is formulated to help overcome feelings of professional exhaustion and restore your zest for life.

10. Give to others

When you’re with friends and family, put away your phone and concentrate on what they’re saying. Ask questions and allow them space to answer. Engaging with others will reignite your interest in the world and improve your relationships.

It’s not possible to get the best out of every day if you live only for yourself. The greatest fulfilment and joy in life is when we do something for others. Spend quality time playing a game or reading with your child. Help an older neighbour or mentor a colleague. Fundraise for a local charity. Or call a friend you haven’t spoken to for a while.

Each day is a great gift, so use it wisely and well and get the best out of every single one.
